Our Minister is the Rev Iain May. Iain was formally a Navigating Officer who served in both the Merchant Navy and the Royal Navy. He left the sea and then entered a career in banking before in 2006 he answered his call to Ministry. Iain studied in New College, University of Edinburgh for a BD and graduated in 2010. He came to South Leith Parish Church in 2012.
Iain is very much a Parish Minister. Being there for all in community and working to share the gospel and the message of Christ to all, is at the heart of Iain’s ministry, ‘a ministry of presence’ is how he best describes his ministry.
Iain is heavily involved with community initiatives and wants South Leith to ‘have a voice in all the various community events and activities’ that take place within the busy port town of Leith.
Iain was the founder and Chair of Castle Community Bank an initiative that brought affordable and ethical savings and loans to the folk of Leith and the wider community. Iain was the initiator and still is the Chair of Edinburgh NE foodbank, which helps those who struggle to put food on the table for themselves and their family.
Iain said of South Leith Parish Church;
